Baby Of Mine

 BABY OF MINE

During the lockdown in Dubai, Altamash's cat Titus Pullo's chronic kidney illness got the best of them both. The cat’s rapid decline was documented during the pandemic. The images were shot in 35mm, medium format film, and digitally with a DSLR and an iphone. Digital photos were then reshot with 35mm film as a way to relive moments that were haunting. The project is a time-lapse of grief, an exploration of impending loss and the human capacity for love. The images also seek to convey the struggle that comes with the experience of being alive and the event of dying. The confrontational nature, the poignant indignation and isolation in the photos echo the reality of the early days of COVID, but they also show how time can stand still in a personal crisis, even when the world is spinning out of control. In the chaos of the pandemic, there was silence, and the only thing that mattered was this journey. The personal story has developed into a photo book that's in progress, tentatively titled : Baby of Mine - or 'The inevitable death and urgent plan to kill Titus Pullo just before he is to die.'

A Portion of the body of work was shown at the COVID CONVERSATIONS exhibition at Tashkeel, Dubai UAE in 2020.
